ONE ON ONE WITH IRENE MUREITHI

Irene mureithi Founder and CEO royal and Rich PDI
1.     Tell us something about your professional background? Banking.
2.     What is your educational background?  What did you do before starting Royal and Rich?
I WAS A BANKER.
2. At what point did you say; this is what I want to do? WHEN I GOT BORED WORKING IN THE BANK- I NO LONGER HAD JOY AT WORK- AND GOING THROUGH THE DAY WAS A CONSTANT STRUGGLE- I COULD NOT HOLD BACK MY PASSION ANY LONGER.
3 What is the most fulfilling part? What is your proudest moment at Royal and Rich? WHEN I HEAR AND SEE THE TRANSFORMATION IN THE LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS.
4. Do you think that women perform better in the marketing profession? YES- WOMEN HAVE A NATURAL INSTINCT TO TALK & RELATE WHICH IS KEY TO SUCCESS IN MARKETING.
5What is your current role within the Royal and Rich? How has this evolved over time? CEO- I AM GROWING INTO IT- LEADERSHIP IS A JOURNEY NOT A DESTINATION.
6What are the various techniques you have used for marketing at R&R? MAINLY RADIO, SOCIAL SITES (FACEBOOK) & E- marketing- emails, brochures, word of mouth and student referrals.

7What has been your biggest challenge/achievement in the MD position and how did you deal with the challenge? CASH FLOW- we just celebrated our 1st anniversary and we are now approaching banks to finance our students because the cash flow issues is a result of students who are unable to clear their fee balances. Personal Development is a fast growing business in Kenya, and we are looking for a bank that will spot the opportunity.
8What is the competition like and how do you manage to stay afloat? what is your unique selling proposition? We are the 1st personal Development Institute but competition is welcome. We have a cash back gurantee if any student does not discover their purpose and experience transformation through our courses- so far we have trained 189 students and they are all happy clients
9What lessons have you learnt in business?
Find your passion and make it your business, do it because you love and enjoy it and the money will follow. Business is a team work- so work with the right people and hire the right people. Give value and ensure a spirit of excellence always.
10 Where would you want to see the company in the next 5 years? How much would you want to see the company grow? I measure success by transformation. I envision a transformed people. I envision people who are more self aware, a generation of young people who will graduate from universities and create jobs instead of seeking for jobs. I want to see PDI having branches country wide and also in other countries in Africa. I dream of the company being listed in the NSE someday.
